Moree Bulls’ Sponsor Day

Moree Bulls’ Sponsor Day

A LARGE crowd turned out on Saturday June 27, for the top of the table clash between Moree Bulls and Narrabri Blue Boars.

In first grade Narrabri Blue Boars were first to strike landing an early penalty capitalising on early field position.

The Moree Bulls had the run of the play, with good field position finally converting into points through well executed backline play. Heath Riggs splintered the Narrabri defence scoring under the posts.

Narrabri came straight back scoring a penalty to narrow the deficit 7- 6 before half time.

Following half time both teams traded blows. Sam Bacigalupo scored in the corner for the Bulls before Narrabri scored a converted try and kicked a penalty to take the lead. Following some sustained pressure Jordon Cosh scored for the Bulls with ten minutes to go.

Both sides were run off their feet in the final ten with Narrabri able to take their chances when Luke Findley scored. The conversion made it a 6 point lead to Narrabri 17-23 with four minutes to go. An advantageous penalty 40 metres out in front with two minutes on the clock was the nail in the coffin which took Narrabri nine points in the lead 17-26. Ben Colley was Moree’s best with Matthew Wannan and Alex Corlis also having a strong game.

Moree Bulls reserve grade came out of the blocks strongly with James Houston delivering a well-timed pass to a surprised Tony O’Donnell who found himself with a clear seventy metre run in front of him. Shortly after Tony O’Donnell was at it again, finding himself in an open space winning a foot race to the line, scoring an early double. Moree continued to have the run of the play with Damian Kelly creating an opportunity down the right side of the field to put Ben Legg in for a try in the corner. Narrabri improved, striking back twice with Moree taking the lead 19-14 at half time.

Narrabri continued to keep the pressure up putting some sustained pressure on the Moree’s defence. Moree rose to the challenge repelling Narrabri’s advances. Building on their half time lead a fleet footed Mick Grant made his way over the try line and shortly after Ben Legg crossed for his second. Sandy Bailey closed the game with his 78 metre run away try to put the game beyond doubt. Moree’s best players were Luther Williams, Nick Smith and Tony O’Donnell.

Moree Bull’s third grade had a high quality game that was as good as any other second grade contest in the competition. Bulls dominated for most of the game keeping it close in the first half. Moree proved too strong running away with the ball in the second half, holding a strong 14 point win leading 34-10.
